Ulima Leads the Way! Our Students Win the 2025 CFA Institute Research Challenge and Advance to the Latin American Semifinals

Ulima Wins Again! Business and Economics students win first place in the 2025 CFA Research Challenge Peru—an annual financial analysis competition hosted by CFA Society Peru—outperforming 20 universities.

The team, made up of Diego Huamán (Economics), Liseth Palomino (Economics), Claudia Almendariz (Economics), Frank Jiménez (Economics), and Freddy Hernández (Management), secured first place thanks to their analytical skills and outstanding presentation before the judges. The competition involved valuing UNACEM, a company listed on the Lima Stock Exchange (BVL), and presenting a detailed financial and economic analysis. Our students outperformed other teams and will now represent Peru in the Latin American semifinal of the global competition.

Frank Jiménez reveals the preparation process for the CFA Research Challenge:

“Our approach combined valuation theory, cement industry analysis, and teamwork, with tasks assigned based on our strengths and continuous feedback from our mentors.”

Diego Huamán shares how the education at our School of Business and Economics prepared them for success:

“Our school's education gave us a solid foundation in finance, company valuation, and financial analysis, honing our analytical and technical skills through practical courses and projects.”

Claudia Almendariz also said:

“Our school fosters teamwork and strategic thinking, which are essential skills for competing at this level.”

Meanwhile, a second Ulima team, made up of Carlos Chávez, Álvaro Castillo, Doménica Forlong, Kiara Gallo, and Nicolás Díaz, clinched fourth place in the final round, showcasing the university's exceptional training.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global competition that gives university students the chance to apply their financial analysis and ethics knowledge. Participants must conduct an in-depth analysis of a company, value its stock price, and present their findings in both a written report and an oral presentation in English, before a panel of CFA Charterholders.
